Shakira's Biography Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, popularly known as Shakira is a Colombian composer, producer and singer of great recognition and success worldwide, born in Barranquilla on February 2, 1977.  Shakira's father William Mebarak, American-born but of Arab origin, was a jeweler but working with the local newspaper.
